This series consists of photographs used for the "History of University Hospital" by Jack David Lazarus Holmes and for a special 75th anniversary of University Hospital issue of the "Beacon," a publication for University Hospital employees. The photographs document individuals associated with the development of the Hospital and its predecessors, Hillman Hospital and Jefferson Hospital. These individuals include "Tennessee" Thomas Hillman, J.W. McQueen, Roy Kracke, and Governor Chauncey Sparks. Photographs provide information about nurse training at Hillman Hospital from the 1910s to the 1930s, the construction of Jefferson Hospital in 1939 and 1940, and the development of University Hospital from the 1940s to the 1960s. Additional images of interest include a photograph of a Hillman Hospital ambulance in the 1920s and of Dr. Edgar P. Hogan, an early director of Hillman Hospital, in surgery. Many of these images are duplicates, but it is not currently known where the originals are located.
